My system is not working at all! What should I do?

Before calling technical service, check if you have electricity (no partial power outage), if the system is on the correct mode, if the desired temperature is reached, if a thermostat program is active, if circuit breakers are tripped (for the heat pump/AC and the furnace/air handler), if there's an error code on the thermostat, and if the system filter needs replacement. Then, stop the system, turn off circuit breakers, remove thermostat batteries for 15 minutes, check and replace the filter, ensure the condenser is clear, and restart the system. For heating, if temperatures allow, increase the heat by one degree. If the heat pump doesn't start after 5 minutes or if the outside temperature is below -12°C, select the heating mode.
